Welcome from Head of School

I have the pleasure of welcoming you to Wicomico Day School, an independent school in Salisbury on the eastern shore of Maryland.  Children ages 6 weeks through grade 8 enjoy their day in an atmosphere of respect, support, and joy.  While the curriculum, based on the Core Knowledge philosophy, is a challenging one, it is presented by highly skilled teachers who understand individual differences in children.  Hence the students achieve success at their developmental level.

Core Knowledge is a spiraling program that allows the students to build on knowledge that they have previously mastered.  The academic emphasis is on reading (including phonics in the early years), language, writing, literature, science, history, geography, art and music, complimented by physical education, health, computers, and foreign language.  The teachers make time during the day for outside recess and field trips are arranged to places that complement the students’ classroom studies.

It is important to us that parents love to participate in the program and enjoy the success of the children.  The parents frequently comment on how nice it is to see their children enjoying school and how comfortable they feel that their young ones are in a safe, supportive environment.
