At Wicomico Day School, children four years and older thrive in small classes led by dedicated, highly skilled teachers who truly know and care for each student. Our elementary program follows the Core Knowledge Sequence, a rich and well-rounded curriculum that emphasizes reading, language, literature, mathematics, history, geography, science, art, and music. Students also enjoy a variety of complementary courses, including environmental science, computers, Spanish, theater, physical education, and health-safety-nutrition, giving them the opportunity to discover and grow in many areas.
The Core Knowledge Sequence ensures every child builds a strong, shared foundation of knowledge year after year. With carefully sequenced topics, students are introduced to engaging, age-appropriate material that builds on what they already know, preparing them for success in the next grade and beyond. This approach not only promotes academic excellence but also fosters confidence and curiosity.
Equally important, our philosophy extends beyond academics. Each day, students are encouraged to practice courtesy, kindness, and cooperation, shaping both character and community. All WDS faculty meet the requirements of the Maryland State Department of Education, ensuring our students learn in a supportive environment that blends strong academics with personal growth.
