The WDS Language Arts curriculum builds strong communication skills by progressing from foundational reading, writing, and speaking in the early grades to advanced analysis, research, and expression in middle school. In Kindergarten through 4th grade, students focus on phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, storytelling, and basic writing, while also developing listening and speaking skills through discussions and read-alouds. As students advance into grades 5–8, they expand into more structured writing such as essays, research papers, and persuasive pieces, while strengthening grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking. Students also study a wide range of literature, including poetry, novels, drama, and myths while learning to analyze literary elements and communicate ideas effectively. The curriculum emphasizes reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking to prepare students to be confident and effective communicators.
