The WDS Math curriculum develops students’ mathematical understanding by progressing from basic number sense and problem-solving skills in early grades to more advanced algebraic thinking and analytical reasoning in middle school. In Kindergarten through 4th grade, students build a strong foundation in counting, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, while also learning concepts such as fractions, measurement, geometry, and data interpretation through hands-on and visual approaches. As students advance into grades 5–8, they expand into more complex topics including integers, ratios, proportions, algebra, geometry, probability, and pre-algebra concepts, developing the ability to solve multi-step problems and apply mathematical reasoning in real-world situations. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts to prepare students for higher-level math.
